About the Artist
Artwork by Amy Marr
Amy Marr is a coastal oil painter whose work is rooted in the waterways, boats, and marshes of the southeastern Lowcountry. Inspired by working harbors, quiet creeks, and sailboats moving through shifting light, her paintings explore atmosphere, reflection, and a strong sense of place. She is particularly drawn to how light transforms water and structure throughout the day, using layered brushwork and nuanced color to convey both calm and movement.
Working primarily in oil, Marr balances realism with a painterly approach, allowing edges to soften and passages to breathe while maintaining clear composition and structure. Her larger works function as statement pieces, while her mid-sized paintings offer collectors an accessible entry into her coastal narrative. Boats, rivers, and marshes recur throughout her work as part of a cohesive visual language grounded in coastal life.
Marr exhibits in Charleston, SC and Myrtle Beach and maintains a dedicated studio practice, creating work that resonates with collectors who value craftsmanship, atmosphere, and a timeless connection to the landscape.
